For some, 1-day cricket is the most exciting of all first class cricket and extremely popular with spectators. In these matches, gone are the formal "whites" in favour of flamboyant, bright outfits in every colour combination imaginable, all with matching accessories, presenting a spectacle of colour - especially under the floodlights of evening play. Different rules apply to ODI than to the much longer test match series.

Begun in 1975, the ICC WORLD CUP is a major championship of 1-day cricket which takes place every four years. The World Cup involves all test match status nations plus any qualifying associate nations. Protocols and venues are as determined by the ICC, who promote the event.

THE 2007 ICC WORLD CUP

This major event is scheduled to take place between Sunday 11 March and Saturday 28 April 2007.

The 2007 ICC WORLD CUP will be held in the Caribbean West Indies with matches being played throughout the islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Grenada, Guyana, Trinidad, Tobago, St. Kitts, St. Vincent, Nevis.

The semi-finals will take place in Jamaica and Saint Lucia and the final in Barbados.

In all, 16 national sides, the most ever, will be taking part in four groups of 4 teams:

GROUP "A": Australia + South Africa + Scotland + The Netherlands

GROUP "B":Sri Lanka + India + Bangladesh + Bermuda

GROUP "C": New Zealand + England + Kenya + Canada

GROUP "D": Pakistan + West Indies + Zimbabwe + Ireland

Last 8

There is also a women's ICC World Cup, dating back to 1973. This championship is also played approximately every 4 years and has, so far, been dominated by the Australians.

The 2009 Women's ICC World Cup is scheduled for Australia followed by India in 2013.
